DRUGS AGAINST ARTHRITIS CAN CAUSE INFERTILITY

Rheumatoid arthritis attacks the body's own tissues causing inflammation . To combat this disease use different drugs without knowing how much damage the fertility of women.

There are immunosuppressive drugs that decrease inflammation joints, product of  rheumatoid arthritis, but has been found that the use of these drugs may cause ovarian failure, this makes infertile women.

Another example are corticosteroids (a type of hormone) commonly used in long treatments for arthritis that can contribute to infertility. If corticosteroids increase it in the blood , causes that the function of the ovaries decrease it or stop.

When the ovaries do not ovulate is impossible to achieve pregnancy. Also , corticosteroids produce menstrual irregularities and loss of libido which makes it more difficult to achieve pregnancy.

However ; when the woman already pregnant, the rheumatoid arthritis does not influence the process of gestation . It has been shown that between 70 and 80 % of pregnant women with rheumatoid arthritis improve their arthritis during pregnancy.

Approximately 90 % of patients suffer arthritis after giving birth , so that specialists prefer to restart the treatment of arthritis as soon as possible after delivery.
